Training

Hiring the right people is only the beginning. Once they are on your team, it is your responsibility to give them the tools, knowledge, and direction they need to succeed. Great training isn’t something that happens during someone’s first few weeks and then stops. It should continue for as long as they are part of your team.

How you train matters just as much as what you train. People learn differently, and simply telling someone how to do something doesn’t mean they know how to do it. Sometimes they need to see it. Sometimes they need to do it themselves. Sometimes they need to hear it more than once. And sometimes the best person to teach them isn’t their manager, but someone who is already doing the job successfully.

The best leaders don’t leave development to chance. They create a plan, focus their training where it will have the greatest impact, and continually look for opportunities to make their people better. Because training isn’t an event or something you ever completely finish. It’s an ongoing investment in your people and the future of your team.
